The Monster MASH
August 11, 2010
So I recently received the news every writer likes to hear – an offer for a new contract. Now this does not mean the end of the demon slayer series. I’m just looking at what I’d like to do beyond Lizzie, Pirate and the biker witches – although please don’t mention this to the biker witches as I don’t want them showing up at my door. At best, they’ll try to bribe me with Jack Daniels. At worst, well, let’s just say there are spells that I haven’t discovered yet and would rather not learn about.
The next demon slayer book, Last of the Demon Slayers, is due out at the end of December. Anyhow, this new series will be published by St. Martin’s. It is near and dear to my heart because it answers a question I’ve been wondering for awhile now – what happens when a vampire, werewolf, yeti (you name the monster) is injured and they don’t heal overnight? Or what if they do heal and something goes wrong (like their bodies forget a piece)?
Well now we have our answer. You see, there are MASH units set up to handle these kinds of cases. My new series features a surgeon in one of these MASH units. And there are plenty of fun characters in the supporting cast as well. The majority of the action takes place at the MASH camp and of course we have to keep things interesting. I’ve been calling the first book The Monster MASH, although titles can change depending on what the publisher wants. No word on release dates yet, but as always, I’ll keep you updated.

Now that’s a fun concept. You can now join the medical thriller genre.

LOL I’m not sure you’d call it a medical thriller. More of a paranormal drama/dark comedy with a crazy cast of characters. It’s going to be so much fun to write.

You say monster MASH and suddenly my mind sees werewolf Hawkeye and siren Houlihan.
And, omg, vampire doctors. All that angst with the blood.
How many more Demon Slayer books will there be, btw?
And…that short for “So I married a Demon Slayer” is that a Lizzie story?

LOL Calliope. That’s not too far off. The ensemble cast is going to be so much fun for Monster MASH.
The next demon slayer book is Last of the Demon Slayers, coming at the end of this year. And then I’d like to cap that series with one more.
The short, “So I Married a Demon Slayer” probably won’t be Lizzie story. Well, I don’t think. I haven’t written it yet. There is a nod to the biker witches in the “Were Wives of Vampire County” short. I couldn’t resist. š

There’s been an announcement that Dorchester will be dropping its mass market line. Since the Demon Slayers are published by Love Spell – a subsidiary of Dorchester – how will this effect the Demon Slayer books?

You know what? I’m not sure. That’s why I haven’t made any announcements yet. For everyone who hasn’t heard the latest, my publisher for the Accidental Demon Slayer series is going through a major re-organization.
Last of the Demon Slayers is scheduled for December 28 and I’d also sold a fifth book in the series. I’m just waiting at this point to see how things shake out. I’ll definitely keep you updated here once I get some concrete information.
