When it’s good to be bad

The American Film Institute has come out with their list of the top villians of all time and I have to say I love this list. There’s something about a really great villian that makes a movie, or a book.

The 70’s kid in me was glad to see Darth Vader on the list. And Dr. Hannibal Lecter, although I actually couldn’t take that movie the first time I saw it. I left my date and ducked into Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead. Now that’s desperation, people.

The American Film Institute’s Top 10 Villians

1. Dr. Hannibal Lecter (The Silence Of The Lambs)

2. Norman Bates (Psycho)

3. Darth Vader (The Empire Strikes Back)

4. The Wicked Witch of the West (The Wizard Of Oz)

5. Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest)

6. Mr. Potter (It’s A Wonderful Life)

7. Alex Forrest (Fatal Attraction)

8. Phyllis Dietrichson (Double Indemnity)

9. Regan MacNeil (The Exorcist)

10. The Queen (Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs)

So who are your favorite bad guys in books that you’ve read?

I agree with half of this list. Mr. Potter was dastardly, and so was the Wicked Witch and Darth Vader. But no Malificant, the wickedest witch of them all from Sleeping Beauty? I thought for sure she would be on this list.

I think the worst villan I’ve read in a book is Mrs. Umbridge from the Harry Potter series of books. Now that lady was eeevil. How ’bout you Angie? Any book villans that stick out in your mind?

Oh man! Umbridge SCARED me. She was evil. She was by far worse than Snape and Voldemort.

    Jess
